A few fun competitions earning anything from bragging rights to a nice check and publication:
The 2024 International Literary Prize. With genres of poetry, scriptwriting, songwriting, and short stories all centered around this year's theme: time. First place receives $1,100, while all shortlisted entries are published in the Hammond House Publishing's anthology. The awards ceremony is also televised, which is kinda awesome.

Surrey International Writers' Conference Writing Contest. Short story contest between 2,500 and 4,000 words. Winner receives $1,000 and publication in Pulp Literature. Runner-ups receive $150.

Dream Quest One Writing Contest.Short story contest (with offshoots for poetry) with a first place prize of $500, a second place prize of $250, and a third place prize of $100. Short stories can be up to five pages long and on any topic of your choice.

The Reedsy Prompt Contests. Weekly short story challenges with shortlist prizes, $250 awarded to first place, and an entire community of readers and writers putting eyes on your work. These challenges come with a list of prompts from which to choose.

Deadline: Weekly on Fridays at 11:59pm EST
Prize for Fiction. Awarded for a completed novel, this competition gives the winner $5,000 and publication by Dzanc Books. Their website lists wanting novels that are daring, original, and innovative.
